Miles Davis – So What
I enjoyed this piece very much, it was very moving, soulful, and soothing to my ears. Miles Davis is a genius on that Trumpet and when he hits his notes I can’t help but tap my feet on the ground and snap my fingers, and of course bop my head. I love how the Trumpet is the highlight of the piece and how the other instruments blend very well to make the Trumpet stand out so cleverly. When listening to music I usually close my eyes, and so this time I felt as if I was in one of those fancy Jazz Restaurant, dressed in an all-white-tuxedo, drinking a bottle of the finest champagne with one Fine Lady by my side dancing and swaying those hips. Yes, Of course, this was all just my imagination, but nonetheless the atmospheric feeling I got from the piece.
Charles Mingus – The Chill of Death
This was an obscure piece, it felt like the title implies “Death”. It reminded me of one of those good old animated Disney movies for like the “Tale of the Evil Witch” (not a real movie) but the voice that narrated the music felt as though it was for a weird movie with that sort of title/storyline where a witch would terrify a town or trick a group of kids into the woods or something.
James Brown – The Big Payback
“I don’t know Karate but I know Crazy”, probably one of the best lines in the song. This beat is fucking FUNKY dog, I got down to this shit as soon as it came on, I just like his weird screaming and the way the rhythm just rocks, James Brown is one smoooooth mother fucker.
Parliament Funkadelic- Mothership Connection
I really enjoyed this very funky and abstract guitar jamming group of dark skinned brothers, I just want to kick back and groove to them when I listen to how they play what they play. Also best lyric “There once was a man from Peru, Who went to sleep in his Canoe, He was Dreaming of Venus, He took out his Penis, and woke up with a hand full of Goo” lmao cried at that part.
John Coltrane- My Favorite Things
This was very soothing and happy to listen to, I enjoyed the trumpet (or sax) whatever was used in this piece, it really made the melody feel upbeat like I was walking down the sidewalk and I found a shiny quarter that I proceeded to pick up, then several steps later a beautiful woman walks pass me and smiles, I give her a nice wave and proceed wherever the music takes me, I see Jimmy’s barbershop down the block but I don’t walk in I just smile as I pass the large glass window and Jim waves at me, I snap my fingers and point to him in a real cool like manner. (Yes I have a vivid imagination, thank you). As the music dwindles I begin to think where I was heading, am I walking to be somewhere or just walking cuz I like the breeze of the wind just as much as the sound of this soulful little trumpet, I don’t know but I keep walking until Finally I reach a point where I have to turn around, no not a Dead End street, but a beach in the middle of nowhere, I must be lost or simply out of my mind…. (Is this even a review anymore? I just wrote what I felt as I listened to the music) ….. Anyway if you were reading this paragraph as you listened to the song you would probably understand in some way why I said whatever I said, because clearly I felt something maybe it wasn't very much analytical but it was something and now I've shared that something with you... (smiley face) : D
