First homework: Loop
Song Review 1st:
I listened to "It's my Life" by Bon jovi. The song has strong el guitar or synth it sounds like, followed by small breaks of piano. Its an interesting combo. This song, and the rest of their songs in general seem to really hyped me up more as the song goes on despite the fact that the song remains at the same energy level. Could use a bit of stronger backup choir in my opinion.

Miles Davis - So what
Soft jazzy piece, definitely stuff I'll save for when I need background music. repeating trumpets that would butt in here and there sound really good despite the simplicity. I found myself zoning out and feeling somewhat relaxed after listening to it.
Charles Mingus - The chill of death
Suspenseful, sounds like an old film soundtrack, particularly like an introduction sequence because of the narration. I'm sure I'd listen to it if I had nothing else to listen to.
James Brown - The Payback
Song is interesting, it sounds almost improvised, like a group of friend just jamming together.
John Coltrane - My favorite things
Sounded familiar. It should to anyone who's seen the sound of music. I can really judge this one (not like I've been doing a good job of the other ones anyway) because I've heard the melody too many times. I do like how the piano does the melody but doesn't hit all the same note to keep it fresh.
Parliament - Mothership connection
I skimmed through the album, I generally liked it. It's got a soft funk to it. I didn't really get into it until I hit Give up the funk, which I happen to know. Sure enough its their 2nd most popular song. Its catchy, the instruments and vocals work together. Glad I forced myself through the rest off the album.

Steve reich come out
Maybe I'm not cut out for this class, I get what the piece is about, but calling this music in my opinion is preposterous. I'm not gonna pretend to be some curator that say oh, this is exquisite, its truly art, I thought it was nothing noteworthy, maybe I'm pampered by today's easy and wide music access. To me it was obnoxious to listen to.
John Chowning Stria
This is one I actually kind of like, its not conventional listening music, its more ambience. Sounds like it came out of one of my favorite games (Thief 1998) which is a dark medieval steampunk fantasy (its also a bit macabre) its got that suspenseful somewhat horror sound.
Xenakis Concrete PH
Its kinda cool what he did with synthesis. But as practical listening music its garbage in my opinion.
Terry Riley in C
Its strange, it comes close to being enjoyable at times but to me sounds like a mess. sometimes it sounds like chase music, other times it sounds like a creaky dryer machine that squeaks in the same spot every rotation. it didn't get as annoying as i thought but its not something id listen to voluntarily.

Fela Kuti - Zombie
The album art makes it look like an anti police or army protest. Its pretty jazzy and I kinda liked it sounds like light chase music. Unexpected vocals half way through the song, I don't know the ethnicity of the voice and I don't wanna assume.
Radiohead - Idioteque
I actually enjoyed this one despite the annoying tone of it. It might be because professor played it before class. I still think it is a strange track but now when I hear it I see the professor. It has a far off bitter and somber tone with uncomfortable cold noises in the background at times, something like grinding metal almost apocalyptic. I listened to it a few times. Also I guess the voices layer nicely.
Bjork - Pagan Poetry
Unfortunately for me I was forced to watch the music video to another bjork song last marking period so I have a preconception of this song being really strange. Anyways I liked the strings in the beginning before the main beat started. Its pretty relaxing and almost put me to sleep. I can't help but zone out while listening to it. Like other Bjork songs it seems there's an overarching voice and backup repeating voices to supplement the main one.
Led zeppelin- whole lotta love
From the very beginning I got really into the guitar beat laid out. It really got my attention. It was catchy and not tiring even though it was repetitive. In the middle it got a bit strange. The song got quieter, lost its guitar, It went on for a while, I thought it was very dry compared to the rest of the song.
