Weekend
Listening
Fela
Kuti “Zombie” – This track was absolutely exhilarating to
listen to, the buildup of the instruments from the beginning of the track
leading towards the middle of the track was simply mind-blowing. I enjoyed the
mix of all these Caribbean, and African, and Congo sounding components within
the music. I feel that although this track features heaps of different sounds and
instruments it blends together very well giving it structure.
Bjork
“Pagan Poetry” – The singing is beautiful; her voice is
marvelous but the melody forever mesmerizing. I could tell there was some kind
of story in the music, a story dealing with the words “she loves him”. The
overall tone of the track seemed like utter sadness from some great betrayal, I
think the song tells a tale of a sad romance.
Radiohead
“Idioteque” – I very much enjoyed the beat and the singing
in the music. I felt they were equally as important in making the song a hit. Overall,
I think this song was dope and the singing was deeply emotional.
Led
Zeppelin “Whole Lotta Love” – I was entranced by the
melody in this music, the guitar licks were engaging and powerful. The music
brought you through stages of melodies and then very subtly into a world of
what seems to be empty abyss compared to the very captivating touch that the
feel of the guitar had on us. I feel that this ambience in the music is sort of
like a punishing silence that is only healed when the sound of the guitars
finally join back in.
Captain
Beefheart “Moonlight On Vermont” – This song had an
immediate sense of what sounded like the blues, just a deep soulful singing
piece. I really enjoyed the slight grunginess in his voice I felt that this
made the song sound more impacting and deep.
