Terry Riley In C:
Terry Riley IN c is a very uplifting and emotional vibe to
it. I actually regret not having good headphones
since I cannot fully hear every instrument on my laptop. The songs themselves
sound very beautiful and have one of those sounds where you must hear it live
to get the full experience.
John Chowning Stria:
John Chowning’s Stria has a very disturbing feel to it. Personally
I was not a fan of this. Then again, this was the beginning of making sounds using
wave-forms, FM Modulation etc... These sounds seem like it would be more
suitable in a horror film due to its eerie sounds resembling an old organ and
bells.
Steve Reich come out-
I actually kind of enjoy Steve Reich’s Come Out. At first it
was weird as it kept repeating “Come Out” thinking to myself “Is that it?”, but
as it progressed I weirdly enjoyed it. Maybe it just reminds me of some of the
songs I like such as Limp Bizkit's “My Way” when the song used the sample “Check
out my Melody” on repeat throughout. It was effective then and it is equally
effective now.
Xenakis concret PH-
Xenakis concret PH is a very interesting piece as it sounds
like something is crackling. Perhaps something is burning. I personally do not know the story or
reasoning as to why this composer chose these sounds but this definitely is
different than anything I’ve heard before.
