Analog Synthesizers and Origin
An analog synthesizer is a synthesizer that generates sound electronically by using analog circuits and analog computer techniques. The idea of analog synthesizers came around towards the end of the 19th century when Thaddeus Cahill acquired a patent for his instrument that he called a Dynamophone. It weighed 200 tons and was driven by 12 steam-powered electromagnetic generators. It was played in real time using velocity-sensitive keyes and was able to generate several different sounds simultaneously. Since then, the analog synthesizer has been improved with new advances such as the vacuum-tube and electro-mechanical technologies between 1920 and 1930 and the variety of operational amplifier integrated circuits and potentiometer in the 1960s
