Julian McNeill

Hey everyone!  My name is Julian McNeill, and I'm a 3rd year DAS major from Fort Lauderdale, FL.  The reason why I am taking this course is because as an aspiring game designer and creative director I am fascinated by all things related to game development.  I'm hoping this class will help me understand game audio and sound production more thoroughly.

My experience with music production is pretty limited.  I used to make beats and short songs using a long-forgotten-by-me program back in middle school, so nowadays I'm mainly a listener rather than producer.  Yet, I really would love to learn how to make my own beats and melodies.  My interest in music production stems from two things: firstly because I want to be able to make or help make tracks for my own video games, and secondly because I am picking up rapping and beat-boxing as part of my improv comedy skills and I'd like to be able to make tracks to cipher to.

I feel like I'm noticeably less interested in music compared to my friends and family, but I nevertheless have plenty of genres I'm into.  Hip-hop and R&B are my favorite stuff, but I also really enjoy EDM, jazz, alternative rock, and of course video game music.  Here are some of my favorite VGM:

Porky Means Business from Earthbound (wait for the drop...)

One Winged Angel from Final Fantasy VII (I don't even like Final Fantasy, but I love this song!)

Pokemon Black/White Elite 4 Theme (my current ringtone)

Anyway, thanks for reading, and I'm looking forward to an excellent semester with you all!
