Aphex Twins Spectrogram

Saw this video a while back, probably most of you as well, of the Aphex Twins song "Equation" put through a spectrogram. Whats pretty interesting is how the harmonics and sounds actually shape into a face. Crazy stuff that I would love to learn. Check it out:

Celestial Evaluation

I was checking out some Plugins for Ableton Live and recorded this track that may be appropriate for the Celestial Sounds during the Planetary Project. See page # 16.
The low end breaks up a bit in this capture. This can be remedied in the mix, or maybe the LFE can handle it. That deep end sound comes from the Virtual ANS. This is a free download.
"Virtual ANS is a software simulator of the unique Russian synthesizer ANS - photoelectronic microtonal/spectral musical instrument created by Russian engineer Evgeny Murzin from 1938 to 1958."

Creating 5.1 Surround Files in Audition

Here is a basic map for creating 5.1 Surround Files for Abelton Live in Adobe Audition.
Kevin and I created two separate 5.1 effects yesterday using this method. Most of the credit here should go to Kevin for fine tuning the method. This a guide not a detailed explanation so you will have to do some navigation within Audition. We can go over this on Wednesday and hone our chops.

-Open Audition and select New Multitrack Session From File Menu
-In the options window
    Select Bit Depth=16 Bit (if it lets you. Kevin and I found that it pushes you to 32 bit but in the end everything comes out to 16)
Sample rate= 48000
Master 5.1 Surround
-Import Your Mono FIle
-Drag into the first track
-Bring up the mixer in the window
-Bring up the Track Panner
   Set the Stereo Spread to 0º
   Select all the points in the Track Panner that you want to use
   Turn on Write Mode in the pull down menu
-Set to bringing of the the track and Hit Space Bar and Click to map the surround pattern as you see fit.
-You also reset track and record the LFE separately.
- From File Menu Export a Multitrack Mix Down Entire Session
-Right Click File in the Bin and Extract Channel to Mono Files
-Then double click each of the mono files individually and then Save As into the destination folder.

Your files are ready to import into Live and be distributed to the appropriate channels.

***When in Live your Ext Outs from your Returns should correspond to the following channels
       1= Right Stereo
       2=Left Stereo
       3=Center
       4=LFE
       5=Left Surround
       6=Right Surround

Theme Sketches

Haven't been in town, let alone a singular place, much this weekend, a lot of traveling. Here are some rough sketches of the Pope's theme and the fairest lady theme. I really like the samples I was able to pull for each, still really questioning both melody lines, mainly the fairest lady. I'm back on the road again tomorrow so the second I'm back in town I can start putting in more and filling it up in great acoustical environments.
